RAWALPINDI - An anti terrorism court on Monday deferred hearing in PPP former chairperson Benazir Bhutto assassination case without recording the statements of three prosecution witnesses because of non-availability of judge.

The ATC Number 1 Rawalpindi Special Judge Pervaiz Ismail Joya, who is conducting hearing in BB murder case at Adyala Jail, left for attending a week-long refresher course in the Judicial Academy. The court set January 26 the next date for hearing in BB murder case. The three prosecution witnesses Surgeon Dr Aurangzeb, Radiologist Dr Nasira Khan and Lady Dr. Samra appeared before the court for recording their statements. Earlier, ATC on Friday last recorded statements of two prosecution witnesses in PPP slain chairperson BB assassination case during hearing held at Adyala Jail. The court also summoned four more prosecution witnesses for recording the statements.

The statements of two prosecution witnesses the then National Disaster Management Cell Director Brig (Retd) Javed Iqbal Cheema and Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) Dr Habib, who cured the injured of December 27 Liaquat Bagh gun-and-bomb attack victims. On the occasion, the defence counsels Ilyas Siddique and Malik Muhammad Raffique cross examined the prosecution witnesses. The application of former SP Rawal Division Khurram Shehzad of giving him exemption was accepted by the court.
