ISLAMABAD - Islamabad police have arrested a fraudster who has been making attempts to mint money from the parliamentarians on the pretext of constructing mosques in Lahore and Haripur. During the initial investigation, it was revealed that the fraudster Liaqat Hussain impersonated Colonel Masood and General Sarfaraz as he used to contact personal assistants of Senators and Members National Assembly on their phones and requested them to get donations from the parliamentarians for under-construction mosques in Lahore and Haripur.
The Secretariat police which arrested the accused said that Liaqat son of Muhammad Younas hailing from Mohalla Qayyum Abad of Dhok Kala Khan Rawalpindi was a habitual impersonator as he also concealed his identity in past to extract money from several people on different pretexts.
He was expelled from the Naval Headquarters too where he was employed as welder after a service of 8-9 years, as he impersonated as General and successfully got transferred some official. However, he was later identified and dismissed from service. Later, the police investigation revealed, that he used to visit rich of the twin cities to ‘earn his livelihood’ under different pretexts.
In the latest episode, the accused contacted the personal staff of some parliamentarians, including Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, Omer Ayub and Khalida Mohsin Qureshi on telephone and asked them to get donations from the MPs for the under-construction mosques in Lahore and Haripur. The accused also contacted the owner of Rabi Centre Rawalpindi and some landlords of Sargodha to get money who reported the matter to police, said the Secretariat police. Case has been registered against the accused under telegraph act (25-D) and further details are being collected through his phone record.
Furthermore, the Secretariat police have busted an inter-provincial gang of dacoits besides recovering weapons from the gangsters who confessed to commit dacoities in various cities of Punjab, Kashmir and also in Islamabad. The gangsters were identified as Ashraf, Asif Shehzad, Javed, Hanif, Sohail, Zameer and Liaqat Hussain. The nabbed criminals have also confessed to snatch a vehicle from a former ambassador on December 16, 2014 near Korang Road and sell it in Azad Kashmir. They also confessed to snatch another car from Fouzia Ashraf in the same area on November 26, 2014. They also confessed to commit dacoity at Al-Basit traders, Murree Road Bhara Kahu on October 21, 2014 and snatching valuables and cash from those present in the shop at that time. They also snatched laptops, cash and mobile phones from the students of Qauid-e-Azam University near Anthropology Department on December 22, 2014. Police also recovered motorbikes, laptops, mobile phones and weapons from them. IGP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan and SSP Mir Vais Niaz have appreciated this performance of Secretariat police team.
Moreover, Islamabad police have arrested 82 suspects during search operation in various areas of the city, a police spokesman said on Monday. Bharakhou, Shalimar, Tarnol, Noon, Koral, Golra and Ramna Police conducted search in the areas of Kot Hathyal, Nai Abadi, Sector F-10, Sector F-11, Dhoke Abbasi, Jangi Seyedan, Kahna Dak, Ghouri, Town, Sadat Colony, Sector G-12 kachi abadi and under construction buildings as well as plazas there. They succeeded to nab 82 suspects who are being investigated further.
