Rawalpindi - City Police Officer Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi has suspended a police officer and five constables on charges of corruption, receiving extortion and having links with gangsters in Gujar Khan, sources informed on Friday.
Those who were suspended by CPO on identified as Sub Inspector (SI) Nazir Ahmed and Constables Zafar Iqbal, Muhammad Usman, Waqas Ahmed, Ikram and Khurram Shehzad. The constables are said to be posted as “Kar-e-Khas” of SHO Police Station Gujar Khan Ishtiaq Cheema.
According to the sources, CPO Israr Abbasi has initiated a departmental inquiry against a police officer and five cops on public complaints that the policemen were involved in corruption, collecting extortion and patronising gangsters and criminals in the area.
They said the cops proved guilty during inquiry and strict departmental action has been recommended against them by the inquiry officer. On this, CPO placed the six cops under suspension and closed them to Police Line Number 1, they said.
Inspector Sajjad, reader to CPO, when contacted, confirmed the suspension of a police officer and five constables by CPO on corruption charges.
Meanwhile, Mandra police have arrested a man on charges of entering a house with intention of robbery. The accused was identified as Amir Qayyum who is reportedly serving as clerk in CPO Office, sources said.
According to sources, Abdul Ghani, hails from Mohala Kalyal, lodged a complaint that a robber while covering his face and having gun barged into his house to commit robbery. He said the robber scuffled with him and even fired a bullet when he tried to catch him. Later on the robber was identified as Amir Qayyum. Police registered a case under sections 457/380/511 of PPC and arrested the robber. Further investigation was on, sources said.
