ISLAMABAD - The National Assembly on Friday passed a resolution to form a 10-member special committee to look into child abuse cases for curbing such crimes by making full use of legal remedies, effective investigation and speedy prosecution.
The house adopted the motion after the murder of a seven-year-old girl in Kasur district of Punjab sent shock waves throughout the country.
The committee, according to the resolution moved by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab, will present its report to the house within a month.
The multi-party committee members, comprised Talal Chaudhry, Marriyam Aurangzeb, Zahid Hamid, Shaista Pervaiz, Shahida Akhtar Ali, Romina Khurshid, Azra Fazl Pechuho, Muhammad Khan, Kihwar Zehra and Sahibzada Tariqullh.
“The speaker is authorised to make such changes in the composition of the committee as and when so required,” the motion read mentioning that the members will recommend measures to stop child abuse incidents such as the Zainab case.
The house has already debated the Kasur tragedy with some of the lawmakers demanding ‘public execution’ of the culprit.
Minister of State for SAFRON Ghalib Khan, responding to a call-attention notice, said that the army was making efforts to clear areas from land-mines in South Waziristan Agency, which result in the deaths of hundreds of unsuspecting people. To a question about a compensation for the affected tribal people, the minister agreed with lawmakers for a proper compensation.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf lawmakers for the second day made attempts to take the floor apparently to settle the score with the treasury benches for passing a resolution condemning their chief for making disparaging remarks against the parliament.
PTI lawmaker Murad Saeed pointed out the quorum when he was not given the floor.
After he pointed out the quorum, Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi abruptly adjourned the proceeding due to a very thin presence of the lawmakers in the house.
PTI lawmakers, Murad Saeed, Shehryar Afridi, Hamidul Haq also resorted to derogatory remarks when they could not get the floor. The house, with the onset of the proceedings, saw a very thin presence of the lawmakers from both sides of the aisle.
The house also offered Fateha for renowned literary figure and columnist Munno Bhai and former chief of PAEC Dr Ahfaq Ahmed.
