Syed Asad posted as new ACLC chief

KARACHI - Assistant Inspector General of Police, Administration, Central Police Office (CPO), Syed Asad Raza has been transferred and posted as the new chief of the Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) on Friday replacing the SSP Muquddus Haider while two more officials of the ACLC were removed from their posts on Friday following the murder of a young Intizar Ahmed in Defence Housing Authority (DHA).

Lieutenant Commander (retd) Muquddus Haider who was serving as the chief of the ACLC was removed from his post by IGP Sindh on Thursday while the IGP Sindh appointed Syed Asad Raza as new chief of the ACLC in replacement of the SSP Haider.

“In exercise of the authority conferred vide para 96 (c) of the judgment of Sindh High Court, Karachi, Syed Asad Raza, an officer of Police Service of Pakistan, Assistant Inspector General of Police, Administration, CPO Sindh Karachi, is transferred and posted with immediate effect and until further orders as SSP ACLC, against an existing vacancy,” reads a notification issued by IGP Sindh on Friday.

Besides removing SSP Haider, the IGP on Friday also removed two more DSP ranked officers posted to the ACLC. The DSPs included Muhammad Akram Mughal and Abdul Ghaffar Jumani. Both the DSPs are directed to report to CPO.

Intizar Ahmed, was shot dead late on Saturday evening at Khayaban-e-Ittehad after the officials and personnel of the Karachi police’s specialized cell - ACLC resorted to indiscriminate fire at a White Corolla, killing a victim at the spot.

Though the police had initially claimed that the boy was killed in an act of targeted killing by at least two armed assailants riding a motorcycle, however, it later revealed that the ACLC officials and personnel were behind the brutal murder of the Intizar Ahmed. Later, the Darakshan police had arrested eight of the nine ACLC personnel while the remaining one has yet to be arrested.

The arrested ACLC cops included the two personal gunmen of the ACLC – constables Bilal and Daniyal. It has been reported that one of the pistols used in the incident owned by the SSP Haider, however, SSP Haider refuted such reports. The police have also recorded statement of a girl who was accompanied by deceased Intizar Ahmed.
