It is extremely disheartening to know that legatees of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah have been left in the throes of despair and indifference by those who occupy expensive real estate left by Mr Jinnah. This thankless nation defends rights of every Tom, Dick & Harry but totally neglects our greatest benefactor's family who are literally living from hand to mouth. It was suggested at a recent gathering in Hyderabad that Mohatta Palace Museum should be handed over to the legal heirs of Mr Jinnah. If outright handing over of the premises to the legal heirs is not possible then the custodians of Mohatta Palace Museum should at least allocate a decent percentage of their earnings to the rightful claimants. The museum has had a few good exhibitions but mostly the regal premises are rented out at exorbitant rates for all kinds of commercial activities, brand promotions and cheap late night music galas. These functions create quite a ruckus for the entire residential neighborhood and also cause a blockade of the road due to placement of huge generators etc. Mohatta Palace Museum deserves to be restored and needs to be run in a dignified, professional style so that a decent part of its earnings can be allocated for Quaid's surviving family. -SYED KHAWAR MEHDI, Karachi, via e-mail, July 8.
