In an interview with an Indian TV channel, PPP co-chairman has blamed the Kargil debacle on both Nawaz Sharif and President Musharraf. The PPP has reacted strongly to this attribution and says it was taken out of context. It seems that Mr. Zardari is already treading on precarious perch. He is making the sort of statements that can put his coalition in jeopardy. With the arrival of Benazir Bhutto's niece Sassi in Pakistan, speculation is rife that anti-Zardari elements in the PPP and Bhutto family are getting together to make things difficult for Zardari's supporters in the PPP. Zardari has been making loose statements not befitting a party leader; he said one time that the next president will be from Sindh. Now he has made the faux pas on Kargil. Amin Fahim has also been lately critical about the PPP government's performance. Zardari should get his act together and start making sensible statements for a change. -DAWOOD SHAKIL, Rawalpindi, via e-mail, July 7.
