The opponents of Kalabagh dam often talk about the resolutions of three assemblies against the dam but no one tells us the substance of those resolutions. One would like to know more about their objections and whether they are aware of the disadvantage of not replacing dead storage with live storage. Do they appreciate that without storage we will soon drop below the water-scarce level; there will be floods for three months and droughts for the remaining nine month; there will be no uniform supply of water over the twelve months for agriculture, community services, power generation etc; there will be no storage for Rabi sowing and there will be no reserve for any contingency, natural or man made. If they are aware of all this and still have overriding reasons for opposing Kalabagh dam, one would like to know about them. ENGR KHURSHID ANWER, Lahore, July 17.
