ISLAMABAD - All top seeded players Aqeel Khan, Jalil Khan, Yasir Khan and M Abid Mushtaq entered the semi-finals by winning their respective matches in the first Aisam ul Haq Master Tennis Championship 2011 at PTF Tennis Complex, Islamabad on Tuesday. Top seed Aqeel Khan was in excellent form and eliminated M Waqas Malik of Lahore in straight sets 6-2, 6-0 by displaying forehand backhand drives from the baseline. Second seed Jalil Khan lost the first set 6-3 in which he made a number of unforced errors against M Abid Ali. He changed the strategy in the second set and won next two sets by 6-0, 6-0. Fourth seed M Abid Mushtaq won his encounter against Usman Rafiq of Lahore in straight set 6-3, 6-0 without any notable resistance. The best encounter in the men's category was witnessed between third Seed Yasir Khan and Shahzad from PAF. Shahzad won the first set 7-6 in the tiebreak. Yasir fought back in the second set and won the second set by 6-4 after breaking in the 9th game of 2nd set. He kept up the pressure in the final set and won the set 6-3. He will face top seed Aqeel Khan in the semi-final. In the ladies event. Saba Aziz, Rukhsana Fazal, Kunsha Babar and Sara Mansoor qualified for the semi-finals. Top seed Saba Aziz proved too good for Javeria and won by 6-0, 6-0. Rukhsana Fazal eliminated Shagufta Mahboob 6-1, 6-0, while Kunsha Babar get walkover against Rubab Rahim. In the boys Under-18 event, Hasnain Manzoor caused the major upset of the tournament by eliminating 4th seed Kashan ul Haq of Islamabad in a thrilling two set match 6-4, 7-6(9). The second set decided at tiebreak which was won by Hasnain with the score of 11-9. Top seed M. Abid Mushtaq, second seed Usman Rafiq and 3rd seed Ahmed Ch. also registered straight sets victories against their respective opponents in the quarterfinals.
