Five new polio cases push tally to near century

ISLAMABAD-The number of polio cases reported this year climbed to 99 – only one shy of a shameful century – after five more cases polio virus infection reported in various parts of the country.
According to National Institute of Health, five new cases of polio include: two-year old Jaul Haq from Tehsil Miranshah, North Waziristan; one-and-a-half-year old Mariam from the same place; Fayaz, aged 1.5 years, from Tehsil Wana, South Waziristan; Maira, 2, from Laki Marwat and; Hamza, 21-month old, from Gadap Town, Karachi.
What is disturbing to note here is the fact that these kids had not been administered even a single dose of polio vaccination since their birth.
According to a breakup, 73 cases were reported this year in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), 17 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 9 in Sindh, taking the total number of cases to 99.
