RAWALPINDI: Corps Commander Rawalpindi Lt Gen Malik Zafar Iqbal visited various areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on the eve of elections of the legislative assembly.

The corps commander visited army troops who were requisitioned by Govt and Election Commission of AJK for assistance in conduct of safe and secure General Elections scheduled on 21 July 2016, a statement by the ISPR said 

The AJK commission had requisitioned Pak Army troops for conduct of General Elections scheduled on 21 July 2016, under article 245 of the constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan and section 4 and 5 of the Antiterrorism Act 1999(XXVll of 1997).

Lt.Gen Malik Zafar Iqbal held separate meetings with Chief Election Commissioner and Govt officials of AJK including Chief Secretary and Inspector General Police.

Conduct of elections would remain responsibility of Election Commission and that of law and order with Civil Administration / Police in all 41 constituencies including 12 reserve seats across rest of the country.
