LAHORE - Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shaharyar Khan says his country's stunning victory over England in the Lord's Test has restored the team's tarnished reputation.

"The Lord's win is important in many ways and the most significant is that the image of our cricket is restored in more than one way at the venue where it was dented six years ago," Shaharyar said while expressing his views in Waqt TV programme Game Beat from London.

He said he had received thousands of congratulatory messages from all over the world and it is heartening that our team has given an opportunity to the whole nation to celebrate a special moment.

"The best part was the support from Pakistan fans. The whole country is rejoicing." He also congratulated players, selectors and coaching staff over the historic victory.

The PCB chief said the victory has negated the notion of the critics that Pakistan can only perform in United Arab Emirates and Asia and would struggle in England conditions. He said the two-week training camp in England ahead of the tour had reaped its rewards as the players got appropriate time to acclimatise with the conditions and team’s good performance in the practice matches and firs Test was evident of the fact.

Shaharyar said that the first Test victory was just beginning and the real goal was to win the series and backed the team to achieve this target saying it was fully capable of doing so.

He said there was much criticism for playing three left-arm fast bowlers in the first Test but all the bowlers had performed exceptionally well and justified their selection.

He said the atmosphere of the dressing room is exemplary and all the boys are united and backing each other to perform.

“The team played as a unit and Misbah led it in an exemplary manner while the new team management did a great job. Coach Micky Arthur has also developed very good relation with the players in a short time. All the players have great respect for the coach and the players enjoy their training.”

The PCB chief also backed the unique style of celebrations of team and said everyone enjoyed the celebration style and the players were praised for that even in the British media. He said the army boot camp also proved very beneficial for the players and the players thanked their army trainers whole heartedly with unique display of push-ups.

The PCB chief said that the British people and media have welcomed Pakistan in a very good manner. About Aamir, the PCB chief said his interview with Mike Atherton had really helped to lessen the hostility towards the fast bowler and Aamir faced very little opposition. He also thanked the British supporters and media for their positive behavior and welcome. The PCB chief also showed his gratitude towards Army Chief, President, Prime Minister and other politicians for their support for the team and said it really had raised the morale of the team.
