Imprisonment fails to stop former PM from social work

Former prime minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif, who, along with his daughter, was sentenced by a NAB court, has decided to carry on social welfare work in Adyala Jail.

According to sources, Nawaz asked the jail administration to provide him with the prisoner’s list. The prisoners, who are unable to pay their fines, will receive help from the former prime minister as he vowed to pay their fines and get them released.

According to the jail authorities, a list was being prepared and would soon be handed over. Nawaz also directed his personal staff to help with work in the jail and announced to install a water facility inside the jail.

Nawaz sharif was sentenced to a total of 11 years in prison and slapped with Rs1.3 billion fine, while Maryam Nawaz, his daughter, was sentenced to eight years with a Rs335 million fine.
