PTI to choose ‘opposition over coalition’

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has said that his party would prefer sitting in the opposition rather than forming a government with Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) or the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

In an interview with BBC Urdu, Imran said that he will not partner with either of the two parties to form a coalition government. The PTI chief said that reforms would not be possible with such a coalition as the two parties are the ones who have destroyed institutions.

“With PPP or PML-N, plans to strengthen the institutions, campaigning against corruption and improving Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) is not possible. These two parties are responsible for destroying these institutions,” he said.

The PTI chief also said that a hung parliament would be unfortunate for the country at a time when it needs a strong government. “Hung parliaments are usually weak and Pakistan needs a strong government which can take major decisions to tackle pressing issues like the financial crunch,” Imran added.
