ISLAMABAD - Police have rounded up six notorious drug dealers during a crackdown in capital and seized huge quantity of narcotics from their possession, informed a police spokesman on Monday.
The arrests were made from the precincts of police stations Golra, Ramna and Karachi Company following orders of DIG Operations Afzaal Ahmed Kausar and SSP Operations Dr Syed Mustafa Tanweer, he said. The detained drug suppliers were identified as Rubina Bibi, Rizwan Arshad, Nasir, Sabir two foreigners Hakeem Ullah Afghani and Zakir Ullah, from possession of police investigators seized 2300 grams heroin and 4700 grams Charas. Separate cases have been registered against the members of drug mafia while further investigation was on, he mentioned.
According to him, DIG Operations Afzaal Ahmed and SSP Operations Dr Syed Mustafa Tanweer, while taking action on reports of narcotics selling in Saddar Zone, have directed the Superintendent of Police Farooq Amjad Bhutter to net the smugglers and dealers of drugs. Following the orders of bosses, SP constituted special teams under supervision of SDPO Saddar Circle tasking them to arrest all the drug peddlers. The police teams raided various drug dens and nabbed some six notorious drug dealers including a lady smuggler and two foreigners, he said. He informed all the accused have been moved to police stations concerned where cases were lodged against them.
In their statements, DIG and SSP Operations said the capital police, under command of IG Islamabad Qazi Jamil Ur Rehman, are committed to wipe out the menace of narcotics from the capital and its suburbs. They said police are carrying out raids across the capital to handcuff members of the drug mafia. The police officers appealed to the masses to inform police about the activities of drug peddlers in their areas concerned so that a prompt action could be taken against them to save lives of youth.
