Inspector shot dead in Quetta

QUETTA - Unidentified armed men shot dead an investigation officer of police on Sariab Road of the provincial capital Saturday morning. According to police, Inspector Abdul Wahab Mengal was on his way to the police station from home in his personal vehicle when armed assailants opened indiscriminate fire, resulting in his on the pot death. Soon after the incident, the personnel of law enforcement agencies rushed to the site and shifted the body to slain officials house but later police transported the body to the Civil Hospital for autopsy. Initially, the police described the incident as another target killing, as dozens of cops have been killed in the province over the past couple of months, however, investigation is underway to unearth the real motive behind the murder. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani has strongly condemned the murder of Abdul Wahab and directed the authorities concerned for immediate arrest of the culprits. No group has so far accepted the responsibility for the murder, just two days after the killing of an SHO in Mastung district for which the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) had accepted responsibility. On the other hand, police foiled a terrorism bid by recovering an explosive device in Sui area of District Dera Bugti. Sources said the police on a tip-off seized an explosive device planted alongside a road. The bomb disposal squad was called in which defused the device weighing five kg. In another incident, a truck driver sustained bullet wounds in an armed attack in Dukki area of Balochistan. Unknown attackers on Chamalang Road targeted Suleman, who was rushed to a nearby hospital. It is pertinent to recall that many truck carrying coal to Punjab from Chamalang have been attacked in the past for which Baloch armed groups had accepted the responsibility.
