PM rekindles masses' hope

MULTAN Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that price-hike, unemployment, lawlessness and shortage of power are the major problems being faced by the country today but hoped that the government would soon find solution to these issues through positive thinking, bright vision and effective strategy. He was addressing a public gathering here at Circuit House after performing ground-breaking ceremony of a Women University and a Cadet College as well as inaugurating Nawabpur and Ghaus-ul-Azam Roads. Though all the projects are actually located in different parts of Multan, the administration constructed their mock plaques in the lawn of Circuit House and the Prime Minister unveiled them one after the other. He said that Islam is the religion of love and peace but the terrorists had distorted its face. 'Tell me today entire nation stands united against terrorism. Weve given the nation the vision of unity. Its a great success of Parliament, he added. He observed that PPP and 1973 Constitution were guarantee for the Federation. 'PPP was the only political party that had its chapters in all four provinces, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, he added. He said that PPP was also a guarantee for national defence and stability and ,therefore, its existence was in the larger interest of the country. He said that the public trusted PPP, voted for Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and brought success to the party. 'Our manifesto was to empower the public and women. Were materialising this vision. Weve eliminated dictatorship, he claimed. Asking the participants of the public meeting to testify that dictatorship was eliminated, he said that the PPP forced Musharraf through dialogue to resign. He said that Shaheed Benazir Bhutto always reiterated that democracy was the best revenge. 'Weve uprooted dictatorship through democracy. Weve translated our Shaheed leaders vision into reality, he asserted. He said that the PPP created a new history by getting approved 18th Amendment unanimously. 'Were not in majority, but yet we kept all political forces alongwith us through reconciliatory politics and got approved 18th Amendment, he added. He said that the achievements of the present PPP government like acceptance of 18th Amendment and restoration of 1973 Constitution would be written in history. 'You always demanded restoration of Parliamentary system. You wanted to see the Parliament and Prime Minister strong. This Parliament was declared rubber stamp by the people in the past, but today this Parliament has brought fame to you in the world, he said, adding, that the existing Parliament took revolutionary steps like launching of Benazir Income Support Programme and provision of free identity cards to 25 million people. He announced that he would lay the foundation stone of a memorial for PPP late Chairperson Benazir Bhutto in Islamabad on June 21. He said that a historic memorial would be constructed and leaders from entire world would come to Pakistan to pay tributes to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. He disclosed that the land for the proposed Engineering and Technology University had been acquired in Lar area and he had directed the Federal Minister for Education as well as Chairman HEC to immediately make PC-1 of the varsity and launch the project. He said that the Engineering University would benefit entire South Punjab region at large as currently the students had to go to other parts of the country for engineering education due to non-availability of any such institution in this area. He congratulated the residents of Multan on launching of Women University and Cadet College projects as well as construction of Nawabpur and Ghaus ul Azam roads. He said that he had directed all Ministers, members of National and Provincial Assemblies and PPP office-bearers to approach the public, listen to its problems and resolve them forthwith. He declared that he would hold a divisional convention of PPP after budget session and resolve all problems being faced by the party. Earlier, addressing the public gathering, Federal Minister for Education Sardar Aseff Ahmad Ali said that South Punjab constituted half of entire Punjab province and neglecting it was tantamount to neglecting entire Pakistan. He said that he was highly eager to launch ground-breaking ceremony of Engineering University in next six months. Adviser to the Prime Minister on Science and Technology Sardar Latif Khan Khosa, MNA Begum Nasim Chaudhry, Senator Malik Salahuddin Dogar, MPAs Nazim Shah, Ahmad Hassan Dehar, Malik Amir Dogar and Ahmad Mujtaba Gilani also spoke on this occasion. All the MPAs from Multan unanimously demanded of the Prime Minister to create history and announce South Punjab province. However, the Prime Minister declined to touch this critical issue in his speech.
