LAHORE - The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decision to appoint two captains has put Misbah-ul-Haq`s authority in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) under threat as Hafeez nick named ‘Professor’ wants to become captain of 50-over format of the game, it has been learnt on Tuesday.

“Misbah has started feeling the heat and the grouping within the team has led to its poor performance and it seems that Hafeez, despite being nominated for Twenty20 captaincy by Misbah, is working towards ODI captaincy as well and Misbah has realised that.”

Misbah will be unable to lead in the first Test due to his suspension for one Test because of slow over rate and team would likely to lead by Hafeez that will show his skills of captaincy in the long-format of the game.

Prior to Sri Lankan tour, the PCB had appointed Hafeez as Twenty20 captain as well as Misbah`s deputy in ODIs  and Tests, Infighting between the players for race of leadership is on as Hafeez wants to become the One-day captain also and performing below par his abilities as an opener. He got three ducks during the series but bowled well, the source said. Hafeez and Misbah both failed to win the Twenty20 and One-day series respectively should be disposed off from the job and new captains to be named for the shorter and longer formats of the game.

Yousuf should be handed the rein of the team that will strengthen the middle order batting of Pakistan as he returns back to country after a stint in county cricket where he performed well. He is fully fit and left a few years cricket in him and want to serve country. Earlier, he appeared in fitness conducted by PCB coaching under the supervision of head coach Dav Whatmore who was amused after seeing his fitness and batting quality. Yousuf is the premier batsman Pakistan have produced till date and can deliver for country and needs Pakistan Cricket Board’s support to earn milk and butter for his family.

On the other hands, one of the groups wants to see Shahid Afridi as captain for World Twenty20 Cup to be played in Sri Lanka in September. In the present circumstances Pakistan team passing through a critical phase and it will difficult for them to reach at the last four stage of the mega event.

Pakistan had performed poorly in the recently-concluded One-day series that won by Lanka by 3-1 while third match was abandoned due to rain. Pakistan at one stage of the match was totally dominating the match and it was being felt that Pakistan will snatch the match easily but suddenly visitors’ bowlers started bowling waywardly in the last ten overs of the match and Mathews snatched the show from Pakistan.

Saeed Ajmal who is the premier Pakistan bowler and one of the best spinners in world was axed by the skipper Misbahul Haq that also proved turning point for Pakistan while his replacement Sami did not bowled well at a time when Sri Lanka needed 15 runs for victory in the last over and Mathews collected 16 runs from his first four balls to seal the fate of the series.

Earlier, Pakistan was also well placed in the fourth one-day and at one stage they were 166 for 2 in 38 overs and it was being felt that Pakistan will win the game easily but their batsmen threw away their last eight wickets for just 33 runs. Perera got four wickets including a hat-trick that took away match from Pakistan and the host registered easy victory. The performance of Hafeez, Umar Akmal, Shahid Afridi and Younus Khan has been below par and they should be dropped from the squad and included new blood to save the Test series. The grouping in the team is making head coach position awkward and he should be given full authority in selection of the team to achieve desired results.

Head coach David Whatmore is a dedicated and honest person and wants to take Pakistan cricket to new heights in the world cricket and working on the directive of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Zaka Ashraf to won the Cricket World 2015 as desired by the chairman while taking charge of the board.

Dav Whatmore also criticised some of Misbah`s decisions including resting Younus Khan and Saeed Ajmal and inclusion of M Sami but he paid no heed. Sarfraz’s is the best keeper in domestic cricket but could not present his show at international level and kept wickets poorly and missed simple catches and run-outs and he not deserved to be in the team. Many other keepers in the limelight any one of them should be tried to select genuine wicketkeeper to Pakistan team as keeper plays vitals role in team’s victory.

There is no dearth of talent in Pakistan despite no international cricket in country since 2009 and country is producing very talented players and the Pakistan Cricket Board should make a pool 50 cricketers and handed them to Whatmore to prepare them for the Cricket World Cup 2015.
