RAWALPINDI - Department of Industries and Investment Punjab (DIIP) and Intellectual Property Organisation (IPO) Pakistan were doing utmost efforts for the promotion of Geographical Indications (GI) of the local products in the international trade markets.
DIIP would organise International Trade Expo in April 2012 to promote local products, said Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) President Jawed Akhtar Bhatti while addressing an awareness seminar regarding GI organised jointly by the government of Punjab, IPO and the RCCU here on Monday.
On the occasion, senior vice president Raja Amer Iqbal, Deputy Director IPO Muhammad Ismail, Addl Secretary DPPI Nasir Rafiq, Hammid Malhi and other participants were also present. Jawed Bhatti said that Pakistan was rich for its natural resources but owing to non-availability of awareness to common man we were lagging behind in trade markets of world.
He said that Pakistan’s Kinno, Basmati rice, Taxila stone; Mangoes of Multan etc were very famous in world. “Today’s seminar is about to create awareness among masses regarding WTO limitations and rules of GI to preserve local identical products”, he added.
