LAHORE - Excise and Taxation (E&T) authorities claimed on Wednesday to have arrested a gang involved in preparing fake taxation documents and recovered bogus stamps and other stationary from their office, said an officer of E&T here.
He said that one citizen Muhammad Aslam owner of a vehicle LWF-1887 visited E&T office couple of days back and told the senior officers that few days back he visited Excise office and met with an excise agent Muhammad Tariq outside the office. He met the agent in connection with payment of token tax of his vehicle and as per deal he paid Rs 25,000 him for token tax money and his facilitation fee. After few days when he visited agent office to receive his receipt, the agent delivered him a fake computerised payment slip. Complainant Aslam further said that when he got that challan/receipt verified from excise office he was told that it was faked. He said that when he put the matter in the notice of agent he insisted with his stance that receipt was original. On argument matter turned into scuffle and Tariq with the help of his colleagues Qasim and Imran tortured Aslam. Matter was once again put in the notice of Director Motor Transport, Imran Aslam who after listening both parties and verification of receipts called the local police and handed over the accused Tariq, Qasim and Imran to police. Since cheating of the accused was proved and a fraud case was recommended against accused. Mozang Police has registered a case against accused under section 420 and further investigations are underway, said officer of E&T. He said that accused were not only causing loss to provincial exchequer but also national exchequer by embezzling Federal taxes after preparing fake tax documents.
