NEW DELHI- Khushwant Singh , a force in India´s literary world for more than 60 years, has died at his New Delhi home, his daughter said. He was 99.
"He was fine and passed away peacefully at home today, "his daughter Mala Singh said. Singh , came into prominence after the Independence from Britain in 1947. He was a lawyer-turned-diplomat-turned-writer. He was the editor of several literary and news magazines, including the Illustrated Weekly of India as well as two newspapers, the Hindustan Times and the National Herald, through the 1970s and 1980s. He also received the Padma Vibhushan, India´s second-highest civilian award. He is survived by his son, Rahul Singh , and his daughter.
