Workers demand govt-fixed wages

HAFIZABAD
Brick kiln workers protested against the kiln owners for not providing them with fixed wages, and called upon the authorities to ensure provision of wages according to government notification.
Led by Labour Union President Muhammad Zaman Ansari, the kiln workers demonstrated in front of Press Club Hafizabad and raised slogans against the owners for exploiting the workers. They said that the government had issued notification for the provision of minimum wage of Rs740 per 1,000 brick but the owners in the district were not paying more than Rs520. Moreover, they regretted that social security cards were also not being issued to the workers causing multiple problems to them for getting medical treatment in the hospital.
TWO DIE SEPARATELY: A youth committed suicide while another person was killed in a road mishap.
Muhammad Arshad of Nanoana along with his relations Faisal Farooq and Shahbaz Ahmad of Jehlum was on way to nearby village and when they reached near Kot Sarwar Motorway Interchange a speeding wagon hit their bike as a result of which all of them were seriously injured. They were shifted to DHQ Hospital where Muhammad Arshad succumbed to his injuries.
Meanwhile, a younth in Kaleke village committed suicide by swallowing poisonous tablets due to poverty.
According to villagers, deceased Muhammad Akhtar was too much perturbed and disappointed due to his poverty as a result of which he decided to put an end to his life. The dead body has been removed to the city morgue for autopsy.
WHEAT CENTRES DEMANDED: Kisan Board Hafizabad district has called upon the Pakistan Agricultural Storage & Services Corporation to announce a wheat procurement target for the district and also establish procurement centres without further delay.
Addressing a press conference, Board’s District President Amanullah Chattha said that wheat harvesting had been started but Passco had not fixed procurement target nor it set up procurement centres so far. He regretted that the Zonal Office of Passco, set up in Hafizabad since long, had also been shifted to Sargodha and demanded restoration of Zonal Office in Hafizabad.
