LAHORE - Lahore Development Authority’s (LDA) former director general Ahad Cheema is expected to stay in the NAB custody for about three months in connection with ongoing investigations against him.

Well-placed sources in the bureau said that evidence collected against him in different cases were very solid and supporting in investigations. Cheema will be produced in the court today for further physical remand.

Cheema was arrested last month for misusing his authority and, with criminal intent, processing and awarding Ashiana-e-lqbal project contract worth Rs14 billion to Lahore CASA Developers, a joint venture a firm which was ineligible for the same. The contract, in connivance with other accused persons, was awarded in violation of PPP Act, 2014.

NAB inquiry further revealed that Bismillah Engineering Services Co (a major shareholder of JV titled Lahore CASA Developers) was a proxy firm working on behalf of Paragon City (Pvt) Ltd.

Cheema allegedly received illegal gratification in the form of 32 kanals of land (valuing Rs30.09 million approximately from the owners of Paragon City (Pvt) Ltd.

NAB Chairman Justice Javed Iqbal on Monday chaired a meeting at NAB Lahore office to review progress on the overall performance of its Lahore bureau especially latest progress on all mega corruption cases which are under process at Lahore station. The NAB DG gave detailed briefing to bureau chairman about the latest progress on the overall performance of Lahore station. The NAB chairman said that bureau was committed to eradicate corruption and deal with the corrupt persons with iron hands by adopting zero tolerance policy. He said the bureau had virtually rejuvenated to eradicate corruption from the country.

The chairman directed the Lahore DG for not sparing any corrupt, dragging them in the dock and recovering the looted money from them as per law.

 He further directed the DG for expediting disposal of all corruption cases including mega corruption cases as per law without delay and without yielding to any external pressure. He appreciated the performance of Lahore office under the supervision of the DG and directed all officers of Lahore station to double their efforts in nabbing corrupt, proclaimed offenders and absconders according to law.

The chairman directed his subordinates to take help from law against the department heads who were not cooperating with bureau in investigations.

He advised the officers to conduct investigations without accepting any pressure no matter how much influential the accused would be.
