Arrests without proof

It is usually a police practice that they arrest everyone and anyone, who has been named in the FIR, without having any sufficient proof against them. It has also been a common practice for the police to take the relatives of friends of the accused into custody, without any charges. This is a gross human rights violation, which cannot be justified. The police officials should discourage the practice of arresting individuals on the grounds of suspicion alone. It is imperative that proper measures should be adopted, to sensitize police personnel towards human rights. YASIR HAMEED, Islamabad, May 17.
