ISLAMABAD - The disciplinary committee of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) announced different punishments (from warning to suspension) to 23 doctors for professional negligence.
According to official statement released by PM&DC, a meeting of the disciplinary committee was held recently to address complaints of people/patients against negligence and misconduct of doctors. The disciplinary committee issued suspension orders and censures to 08 and 03 doctors respectively.
The committee also issued warnings to 10 doctors for their minor misconducts while16 doctors were exonerated for not proven guilty.
The doctors whose registration has been suspended include: Dr Sanaullah (41329-P) for one year; Dr Sandeep Kumar (B-55512-S) registration suspended till appearance before disciplinary committee; Dr Azmat Mehraj (15185-P) debarred to practice for 05 years; Dr Masood-ur-Rehman (11104-P) registration suspended till appearance before disciplinary committee; Dr Ghulam Qadir (19428-P) registration suspended till appearance before disciplinary committee; Dr Jawad-ur-Rehman (34728-P) registration suspended till appearance before disciplinary committee; Dr M Ejaz (Shorkot, district Jhang) registration suspended till appearance before disciplinary committee; and Dr Sikandar Khan (Shorkot) registration suspended till appearance before disciplinary committee.
Doctors who were issued censure are Dr Sumera Irfan (15304-P), Dr Johnson Shafiq Asi (25675-P) and Dr M Fayyaz Yazdani (13119-P).
Doctors who were issued warnings include: Dr M Aslam (13269-P), Dr Javed Iqbal Bajwani (34070-P), Dr Salamat Ullah (34384-P), Dr Adnan Khan Laghari s/o Ghulam Mustafa Khan Laghari, Mughal Eye Hospital (Trust), Lahore, Dr Farrukh Arsalan (66096-P), Dr Khurram Shahzad (54490-P), Dr Tariq Mahmood (17310-P), Dr M Farooq (41813-P), and Dr Farah Farooq (40339-P).
The PMDC is going to hold disciplinary committee meetings in all the provinces of the country to safeguard public at large, said Chairman Disciplinary Committee Dr Asim Hussain. He said that it is prior duty of all the hospitals and clinics to display patient rights at prominent places which is available at the PM&DC rule book Code of Ethics which is also available at PM&DC website i.e. www.pmdc.org.pk. He emphasised that there is a process of filling a consent form by the doctors while undertaking any procedure. These consent forms should be properly narrated and should be in Urdu. In case patient is illiterate, he/she should be read through the consent. As it is his right to know about the procedure and his permission will also save the doctors later on.
He added that general public/patients are advised/informed to lodge a complaint to PM&DC if they have any type of complaint with the doctor regarding misconduct or negligence.
He added that the complaint can be lodged to PM&DC on a stamp paper and for any other complains they can email on president@pmdc.org.pk or SMS at 03025051222.
Prof Dr Umar Ali Khan, Prof Dr Syed M Awais, Prof Dr Fakhar Imam, Prof Dr Faisal Masood, Prof Dr Muhammad Shad, Prof Dr Jameel Ahmed, Prof Dr Gulshan Ali Memon, Prof Dr Rahat-un-Nisa, Prof Dr M Aneel Aslam, and Prof Dr M Parvez Anjum were the members and experts of the committee meeting to decide the cases.
