Police served notice in plea against Nawaz, Abbas

LAHORE - A sessions court Saturday issued notice to Old Anarkali police on a petition seeking registration of FIR against ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif over his statement about Mumbai attacks and its endorsement by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

Advocate Sardar Aftab Ahmad Hanjra had filed the petition saying that Nawaz Sharif’s recent statement about the Mumbai attacks was damaging for the country.

He said he gave this statement just to please the enemies of Pakistan and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi instead of rejecting his statement, endorsed it which was against the interest of the state and clear violation of the law.

He asked the court to order police to register FIR against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. After hearing his arguments, additional district & sessions judge Saifullah Hanjra issued notice to Old Anarkali police and sought reply. The court adjourned further hearing until May 24.
