Pakistans former Military ruler Pervez Musharraf has said that All the elected governments have failed the country. On a historical note, General Muhammad Ayub Khan (the original sinner) orchestrated martial law in 1958 by getting rid of the civilian set-up and went on to win a fraudulent election by defeating Ms Fatima Jinnah, the sister of the Father of the nation Quaid-i-Azam. As if this was not enough, on March 25, 1969 instead of handing over the government to a civilian set-up, he handed it to General Yahya Khan. On July 5, 1977 Bhutto, the elected Prime Minister was arrested by troops under the orders of General Zia-ul-Haq in a coup on the pretext of unrest despite Bhutto having reached an agreement with the opposition parties, Pakistan National Alliance (PNA). On October 12, 1999, the elected Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif removed General Musharraf as the Chief of the Army Staff as per his constitutional powers but the country was taken over again by the military dictator General Pervez Musharraf. The former dictator needs to be reminded that at least the successive govts failed the country and not destroyed it completely. Wasnt his eight-year rule from 2001 to 2008 not enough to plunder and destroy the country. The pity is that he wants a comeback to rob us of whatever we are left with. DR.
