ISLAMABAD (AFP) Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Friday congratulated the womens cricket team for making history by beating Bangladesh and winning the first Asian Games womens cricket gold. It was Pakistans first gold of the Games and comes with the mens team mired in scandal over fixing allegations and Pakistan battling the fallout of catastrophic summer flooding that hit 21 million people, said the President in his felicitation message. He described the womens gold medal as a gift to the nation riding on a series of crises, spokesman Farhatullah Babar told AFP. The president has felicitated the teams players, management and coaches, Babar added. The Prime Minister said that the Pakistan women cricket team has created history by defeating Bangladesh by 10 wickets to win the first-ever Asian Games women cricket tournament - the first gold for Pakistan in Guangzhou. Prime Minister Gilani invited the Pakistani women cricket team to a reception at the PM House as soon as it returns home. The Prime Minister in a message said he was pleased by the performance of the team and hoped it would continue to bring more good name to the country. Captain Sana Mir after winning the toss invited Bangladesh to bat first and the opponents were dismissed for 92 runs in the allotted 20 overs.
