LAHORE (PPI) - The hides and skins business was going in full swing after Eid ul Azha here at hide market in city. This year the sacrificial animals skins rates have risen up to Rs 1000 each piece. According to details, the skins business was going on at the largest hide market in Punjab situated at Sultanpura behind the city railway station. The sacrificial animals skins were arriving from different parts of the city, while skins from other cities of the Punjab would arrive in market from next week. There were about 100 godowns where traders saved animals skins during Eid days. The auction would be started after one week in market. Muhammad Imtiaz a market trader told this news agency that this year the average rate of each skin was high. The price of goat skin was Rs 475, cow Rs 2,500, camel Rs 1000, calf skin Rs 1,000 and sheep skin was being sold at Rs 550 each. This year the cows were slaughtered in a large numbers than goats and sheep. The people took part in collectively due to high rates of goat and sheep. It was easy for a common man to pay for collective sacrificial Rs 5000 for each share than buy a goat at Rs 15,000. Due to this reason the cows skins were reaching in a large numbers in market on this Eid, Imtiaz said. Another trader Haji Amin who was busy in buying skins at market said that skin rates have increased up to Rs 1000 in market this year. He said if we compare the rates of this year against the last year, the rates of sheeps skin have raised Rs.100, goat Rs 50 and cow skin up to Rs 1,000, he added. Khawaja Sajjad Ahmed, General Secretary Traders Association Hide Market said this year the skin rates were high up to 30 percent. He said according to an estimate this Eid some four lakh goats and sheep and 50,000 cows slaughtered in Lahore. The trades are buying only skins these days and auction of skins would be started from November 22 (Monday) in the market, he concluded.
