In occupied Kashmir, scores of people were injured, one of them critically, in troops' firing on protesters in different parts of the Kashmir Valley. According to Kashmir Media Service, paramilitary CRPF and police personnel fired bullets and teargas shells to disperse peaceful protesters in Pulwama where one youth identified as Nazir Ahmad Rather, 30, of Washbugh Pulwama was critically injured. He was rushed to Srinagar for specialized treatment. The residents told media men that the troopers went berserk and started beating up shopkeepers. "The CRPF men were asking shopkeepers why they raised pro-freedom slogans," a local said. Similar protests, marked by clashes between paramilitary troops and protesters, were reported from Nawhatta, Magarmal Bagh, Baramulla, Rajpora, Murran, Islamabad and Sopore areas.
