ISLAMABAD - President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani separately telephoned Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif and assured him that the government was sincerely striving to provide relief to the people and would give serious consideration to the suggestions he had forwarded to President Asif Ali Zardari in a letter he had written a few days back. In a telephone call, which was ostensibly made to condole the death of Mian Nawaz Sharifs uncle Mian Miraj Din, President Asif Ali Zardari once again extended invitation to Mian Nawaz Sharif to meet him so that some joint strategy could be evolved to address the problems being faced by the masses especially in the flood affected areas. Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) sources said though Mian Nawaz Sharif did not make any commitment for meeting President Zardari in near future, he agreed with him that political forces in the country should work jointly for strengthening the democratic institutions in the country. Mian Nawaz Sharif also assured President Asif Ali Zardari that his party would not become part of any move to dislodge the government but at the same time said that the government must address the serious problems with the governance which in a way were discrediting the whole political system. Sources further informed that President Zardari assured Mian Nawaz Sharif that the suggestions put forth by him in his letter would be given due consideration and he had already dispatched him an interim reply of the letter. The President condoled the death of his uncle Mian Miraj Din and also inquired about the health of his ailing wife Begum Kalsoom Nawaz. Meanwhile Prime Minister in his telephonic conversation with Mian Nawaz Sharif informed him about the short reply of his letter and assured him that government would give due consideration to his suggestions to spruce up the governance and to provide solace to the masses. The Prime Minister assured Mian Nawaz Sharif that his party would continue with its policy of reconciliation and would take all the stakeholders on board while taking decisions and referred to the major decisions taken under his government with consensus. Meanwhile Prime Minister also greeted other political leaders on Eid day and reiterated his governments pledge to continue to work for strengthening of the democratic institutions and welfare of the country. Prominent among those with whom the Prime Minister talked included MQM Quaid Altaf Hussain, PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, JUI-F President Maulana Fazlur Rehman and PML Functional chief Pir Pagara. Prime Minister Gilani also telephoned Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and extended Eid greetings to him on his and his governments behalf.
