LAHORE Provincial Police Chief Javed Iqbal has directed his entire police force comprising 170,000 personnel to remain on high alert during Muharramul Harram to maintain the law and order situation. Addressing to the field police officers during his visit to Sargodha and Rawalpindi regions alongwith the sub-committee constituted by the Chief Minister on Saturday, police chief Javed Iqbal stressed upon RPOs, DPOs and senior police officers of both the regions to plan their strategy to foil any untoward incident by taking timely action. The police chief also directed the relevant top cops to ensure provision of modern equipment for those officers, who are being deployed around sensitive installations and sensitive mosques and Imambargahs. Javed Iqbal also gave special instructions for traffic police of both regions to ensure the implementation of special traffic plan during the activities of Muharram. No cop would leave his duty: CCPO Ahmad Raza Tahir has pledged as no police officer would leave his duty till the dispersal of last person from Muharramul Harrams Majalis and processions, besides ensuring strict security plan by remaining high alert, especially till the end of all religious congregations. In this regard, an effective pick and drop service, along with provision of edibles and clean water for drinking, are also provided to such officers. According to the plan, Lahore Police in coordination with the Ulema, public representatives, all other related departments and agencies, will ensure comprehensive security for religious routes and places. He was presiding over a high-level meeting held in connection with peaceful conduct of Moharam-ul-Haram days, at Police Lines Qilla Gujjar Singh, in which more than 100 Shia Ulema and License Holders participated, here on Saturday. DIG Operations, SSP Operations and all divisional SPs were also present on the occasion. CCPO said that for the foolproof security during Moharam-u-Haram all entry and exit points of the places of Majalis will be covered and roof top deployment will be made at Imam Bargahs, places of Majalis and route of the processions. He directed that parking be made at a safe distance, preferably 200 meter, from venue of Majalis and precessions. CCPO said police officers and more than 12 thousand police Jawans would provide security cover to 4000 Majalis and 640 processions, while armed personals would also be deputed to provide security to different programs to be held on daily basis. He said that 134 mobile squad, 85 motor bikes, 75 cars, 11 cars of Elite Force would also be deployed on this occasion. Similarly, Lahore Police force would provide security cover to 297 Imam Bargahas and 787 Mosques falling on the routes of procession. He said scourge of terrorism can only be combated with national unity and solidarity, as anti-country elements are pursuing nefarious agenda of making various segments of the society to fight against each other. Ahmad Raza Tahir said that code of conduct would be strictly implemented during Moharram-ul-Harram and 1068 members of District Peace Committee would remain present on the routes of processions and Majalis especially at sensitive places. Similarly, strict enforcement of Loud Speaker Ordinance would be ensured, the CCPO added.
