UNITED NATIONS - The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on Friday deploring "the plot to assassinate" the Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States and calling upon Iran "to comply with all of its obligations under international law." Pakistan abstained - neither supporting nor opposing --on the resolution, which was proposed by SArabia. The text was passed with 106 votes in favour, nine against and 40 abstentions. Among arguments by the opponents were that the "plot" was merely an unproved allegation, notwithstanding the arrest and alleged confession of a US citizen, and that it was another move by Washington to discredit Tehran.
