ISLAMABAD (APP) - Federal Secretary for Commerce Zafar Mehmood on Saturday called for free environment to boost business activities between India and Pakistan. Talking to Pakistan Television (PTV), Federal Commerce Secretary Zafar Mehmood said recent talks with India were significant which would help improve the relations between the two countries. Commerce Secretary Zafar Mehmood stressed the need for removing the hurdles in the non-tariff barrier so that businessmen of both sides could avail better opportunities in promoting their products in the markets of this region. We are making all out efforts to normalize the trade relationship with India, he said and added Prime Ministers of both countries are keen in moving forward for strengthening the trade relations. Replying to a question he said that boosting regional trade would bring economic prosperity for the peoples particularly of Pakistan and India. Replying to another question, he said that there is a need to remove the reservations of both the countries businessmen and for this purpose, efforts would be made to achieve the objectives. The Commerce Secretary hoped that Indian side would take all possible steps to address the issues of Pakistani businessmen. He was of the view that it was in the interest of both the countries to settle down all the issues so that free environment could be developed for the traders of both sides. Zafar Mehmood said that all the important measures would be taken to protect the national industry. To a question he said that Indian currency is stronger than Pakistan currency which can be very beneficial for our exporters. To another question, he said that Interior Ministry level talks would likely be held in the next month for normalizing the visa and other policies.
