‘Govt depts need to be computerised’

KARACHI – The Administrator of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Hussain Syed said it was need of the hour to equip the government machinery especially the municipal organisations with the present day needs.  The computer and IT technology have to be given basic importance in all fields to serve the citizens in a better way.He said this while chairing a meeting of the information technology department which was attended by Senior Director IT Masood Alam and other senior officers.He directed to make the computer training essential for all the employees of the KMC and to arrange IT courses in the computer training centre including the basic office automation and advanced computer courses.He said the municipal services, education, health, master plan and land management departments especially need to be equipped with the modern tool of information technology.Karachi was counted in the seven big cities of the world and it enjoyed the metropolitan status, therefore the citizens here need to be served in an efficient way.Administrator Karachi said that despite having limited resources, KMC was making it sure to provide well standard computer training to its employees and for this purpose a relatively big and modern computer training center will soon be setup with the latest computer systems, multimedia projectors, networking and other necessities.He said he will personally monitor the training courses and all the needs of I.T Department will be fulfilled in this regard.Senior Director Masood Alam gave a detailed briefing to the administrator on the working of Information Technology Department. He said the training courses were started in 1995 and so far computer training had been imparted to over 1400 employees through more than 73 IT courses.The employees of KMC, defunct KDA, Building Control Authority, DMCs and KW&SB availed the training facility.He said soon more advanced I.T courses will be introduced for KMC employees which were expected to bring improvement in the overall working.Nadia Gabol enquires after Malala’s health: Coordinator for Human Rights Sindh Nadia Gabol visited the physician treating Malala Yousufzai in London and enquired after her health, says an official statement issued here on Monday. Gabol paid rich tribute to Yousufzai saying she had written the history with her valour and courage in order to show the light to other girls to get education for a better future of the nation. She said all those who believe in Islam and its teachings was praying for the early recovery of Malala’s health. Islam, she noted, has obliged all men and women to get education. She told Islam is the religion of tolerance and its teachings should be followed in its true spirit as no one is allowed to enforce his/her point of view upon others. She hoped Malala would soon recover and be able to continue her struggle for the right of education for other girls.
