LAHORE – Pointing to foes’ plot to destabilise the country Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Monday stressed the need for joint efforts to thwart enemy’s bids.
“Our enemies are hatching conspiracies to destabilise the country and it is a collective responsibility of all citizens to foil their nefarious designs through maintaining unity and harmony,” the chief minister said while addressing a meeting outlining the law and order strategy during Muharram. The meeting also inspected the security arrangements on the routes of mourning processions.
Seeking stern action against the elements promoting sectarianism, he said that foolproof security arrangements had been made for Muharramul Haram and law and order would be ensured at any costs. The CM further asked the parliamentarians, Ulema and Mashaikh to come forward and help the government towards promoting tolerance and brotherhood in the masses.
The CM said that Punjab government had evolved a solid strategy to maintain law and order during Muharram and the situation was being closely watched with the cooperation of Ulema, Zakireen and public representatives while security arrangements around mosques and Imam Barghas had been beefed. He said that strict action was being taken against those who were providing lodging at hotels, guest houses and inns to the guests without checking their national identity card and it had been made binding upon the owners not to allow anyone without an ID card.
He said that action was being taken without any discrimination against those delivering provocative speeches while a complete ban has been imposed on the publication of objectionable literature. He further directed that the ban on wall-chalking should be strictly imposed.
The CM ordered suspension of the concerned Superintendent Jail on the complaint of violation of the ban on the use of mobile phone in prison.
