Govt determined to improve working of PIA: Dar

ISLAMABAD: A high level meeting chaired by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad on Thursday reviewed different options for restructuring of Pakistan International Airlines.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said government is determined to improve overall working of PIA and augment its passenger and cargo services through administrative measures, introduction of better equipment and enforcing financial discipline.

The Chairman Privatization Commission presented before the meeting a broad outline of the proposed restructuring plan which takes a holistic view of the National Flag Carrier’s administrative and financial matters, domestic and international services, and suggests steps for its re-organization on modern lines. The Chairman said that all legal requirements shall be taken into consideration for undertaking the restructuring process.

The Finance Minister on this occasion said that the Government is determined to improve overall working of PIA and augment its passenger and cargo services through administrative measures, introduction of better equipment and enforcing financial discipline. All measures would be taken to revamp it, the Minister remarked. The Minister added that complete transparency shall be ensured for proposed restructuring and strategic partnership. He directed the officials concerned for regular update on the restructuring process.

SAPM on Law, Ashtar Ausaf, SAPM on EAD, Barrister Zafarullah, Secretary Finance, Dr. Waqar Masood, Chairman Privatization Commission, Mohammad Zubair and senior officials from Ministry of Finance and other related departments attended the meeting.
