BADIN: Zulfiqar Mirza group on Thursday swept the local body elections in Badin city where it won all the 14 chairman seats.

Zulfiqar Mirza’s son Hassam Mirza has also been elected as the chairman of his union council, leaving Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in a shock.

According to details, PPP has won 411 seats so far in Sindh overall, leading the polls with a massive margin but in Badin, Mirza group has emerged victorious humiliating the ruling party of the province to a score of nil compared to the group’s 14 seats. The city has only 14 seats and Mirza group has won all the 14 seats here.

In Sindh overall, Muttahida Qaumi Movement stands 2nd in terms of parties so far with 51 seats while Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) has bagged 20 seats so far in the province. Pakistan Muslim League – Functional (PML-F) has secured 13 seats while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has bagged 5 so far. Independent candidates have secured 51 seats so far.

Tight security arrangements were made to ensure free, fair and transparent polling. Over 104 thousand policemen were deployed for security during second phase of the LB polls in Punjab and the Rangers personnel were deployed outside and inside the polling stations while as many as 40 companies of Pakistan Army are monitoring the situation.
