KARACHI - Provincial Election Commissioner Tanveer Zaki on Saturday declared all polling stations in the NA-258 constituency sensitive and called for deployment of paramilitary forces for peaceful by-election in the constituency.

He was chairing a meeting in Karachi on the security plan and electoral activities for the bye-election. The meeting was informed that the Rangers would be deployed in and outside all polling stations to ensure security of voters. It was also informed that presiding officers and Rangers personnel will have magisterial powers during the by-election. The Pakistan Army will be ready to respond quickly to any emergency situation.

It is pertinent to mention here that the NA-258 seat fell vacant after PML-N leader Abdul Hakeem Baloch resigned and joined the PPP. Now Baloch is contesting the by-election for this seat on PPP’s ticket.

A tough contest is expected between PPP's Baloch, PTI`s Mohammad Ali Bangash and MQM-P`s Mumtaz Ali Imrani. The ECP had announced the by-election in the NA-258 on November 22. However, the election was later postponed until November 24 due to administrative reasons.

The NA-258 consists of Gadap, Malir, Ibrahim Haidri, Gulshan-e- Hadeed and other adjacent localities. This constituency was considered a stronghold of PPP, but Baloch won here in the 2013 general elections on PML-N’s ticket.
