LAHORE - Seven national records were made on the opening day of the National Swimming Championship 2021 that commenced here at K-Block Swimming Pool, Phase-V, DHA Lahore on Friday.
Total of nine teams comprising different age groups, of men and women, boys and girls, are competing in 106 events from Nov 19 to Nov 21, 2021. Pakistan Army took lead and dominated the first day while Pakistan Wapda secured second, Sindh claimed the third position. DHA Lahore, Brig Waheed Gul Satti, was the chief guest at the opening ceremony. On his arrival, Chairman and CEO Maj (R) Majid Waseem briefed the guests on ambit and modalities of national swimming championship 2021. Later, the chief guest declared the games open and witnessed march-past of the participating teams.
In 50m backstroke of women’s open category event, Fatima Lotia (Army) won gold; in 100m freestyle, Jahanara Nabi (WSB) won gold and made a national record (01.02.05); in 200m individual medley, Jahanara Nabi (WSB) won gold; in 50m freestyle, Bisma Khan (Army) won gold; in 100m breaststroke, Mishael Ayesha Ayub (WSB) won gold and in 4x200m freestyle relay, Wapda won gold, Army silver and Sindh bronze. In 16&under category 50m backstroke, Fatima Lotia (Army) won gold; in 100m freestyle, Ameena Ameer (WSB) won gold; in 200m individual medley, Eman Sheikh (Army) won gold; in 50m freestyle, Sara Khan (WSB) won gold; in 100m breaststroke, Emaan Zubair (Sindh) won gold and in 4x200m freestyle relay, Army won gold, Sindh silver and Navy bronze.
In 14&under category 50m backstroke, Zayna Ahsan (Army) won gold, Haya Adnan (Sindh) silver; in 100m freestyle, Sofia Diana (Punjab) won gold; in 200m individual medley, Haya Adnan (Sindh) won gold; in 50m freestyle, Maheen Manzoor (WSB) won gold and in 100m breaststroke, Maya Lone (WSB) won gold. In 12&under category 50m backstroke, Meher Maqbool (Sindh) won gold; in 100m freestyle, Aiza Durrani (Army) won gold; in 50m freestyle, Fatima Salman (Army) won gold. Army is leading the competition on day one in women category.
On men side, the competition were held in multiple categories and seven previous national records were broken, both in team events as well as in individual events. In open category 800m freestyle, Amaan Siddiqui (Army) won gold; in 200m backstroke, Faizan Akbar (Army) won gold; in 200m butterfly, Azhar Abbas (Army) won gold; in 200m freestyle, Haseeb Tariq (Army) won gold; in 200m breaststroke M Mustafa (Army) won gold; in 200m individual medley, Faizan Akbar (Army) won gold; in 4x100m freestyle relay, Pakistan Army won gold.
In 16&under category 200m backstroke, Ahmed Durrani (KP) won gold; in 200m butterfly, Amaan Siddiqui (Army) won gold and made a national record (02.28.30); in 200m freestyle, Amaan Siddiqui (Army) won gold and made a national record (02.06.24); in 200m breaststroke, Daniyal Ghulam Nabi (Wapda) won gold and made a national record (02.38.85); in 200m individual medley, Ahmed Durrani (KP) won gold and made a national record (02.22.37) and in 4x100m freestyle relay, Sindh won gold and made a national record (04.07.88).
In 14&under category 200m individual medley, Mohid Sadiq Lone (Punjab) won gold; in 4x100m freestyle relay, Sindh won gold and Punjab silver. In 12&under category 4x100m freestyle relay, Punjab won gold and made a national record (04.30.86) while Sindh won silver. At the end, chief guest Administrator DHA, Brig Waheed Gul Satti gave away medals to the position holders.
