LAHORE - Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Iqbal seemingly failed to stop the suspended assembly members from attending Tuesdays session, as Election Commission of Pakistan did not send the copy of its notification to the Punjab Assembly Secretariat about suspending assembly membership of 69 legislators who failed to submit accounts of their assets on the prescribed date. Some of the suspended members, including Rai M Aslam Khan, Tayyaba Zamir, Humaira Awais Shahid and others were seen attending the session on Tuesday, but Speaker did not ask them to leave the House. Punjab Minister for Labour, Muhammad Ashraf Khan Sohna also one of the MPAs whose membership has been suspended by the Commission, however, he did not attend Tuesdays assembly sitting. When contacted, the minister told TheNation that he sat in his office on Tuesday but did not do any official business since he was no more a minister. He said he just did public dealing while sitting in his office. Sohna further told this scribe that his lawyer has now filed statement account about his assets on Tuesday. When contacted, Secretary Assembly, Maqsood Malik told TheNation that assembly secretariat had not yet received any notification about suspension of assembly members from the Election Commission, stressing that Speaker could not take any action merely on the basis of media reports. It has been learnt that seven of the 69 suspended assembly members presented statements about accounts of their assets on Tuesday to the Election Commission and their membership has been restored.
