Polling was ongoing for the NA-61 (Chakwal II) by-elections on Wednesday. The seat had become vacant with the resignation of the previous Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Faiz Taman. There are eight candidates contesting, but only two front runners: Sardar Mansoor Hayat Taman and Sardar Mumtaz Taman. Mansoor Hayat Taman, despite being a member of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), is contesting the elections as an independent candidate. He has the support of PPP MPA Fauzia Behram and other PPP local leaders except for the partys district president Shah Jahan Sarfaraz Raja. However, Mumtaz Taman is contesting from the platform of the PML-N.
