LAHORE - Lahore High Court Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif Tuesday sought report and parawise comments from the secretary, ministry of foreign affairs, for November 10 on a petition filed against the alleged abduction and extradition to abroad of seven Pakistani citizens now detained in Afghanistan jails. The court passed this direction on a petition filed by Sultana Noon, a representative in Pakistan of a UK-based organisation which fights for human rights of prisoners. The petitioner through her counsel Salman Akram Raja Advocate informed the court about the detention of seven Pakistani citizens at Bagram Theatre Internment Camp in Afghanistan after they were allegedly abducted here and handed over to foreign countries with no reason. The seven abductees included Awal Khan, Hamidullah Khan, Abdul Haleem Saifullah, Fazal Karim, Amal Khan, Iftikhar Ahmad and Younas Rehmatullah. The court had earlier sought reply from the ministry of interior which was submitted last day, inter alia stating the matter in hand related to the ministry of foreign affairs which was also a party in the instant case. Meanwhile, a standing counsel for the court submitted a letter dated Oct 14 issued by Sarfraz Khan, Lt Col Director Ministry of Defence, in which a request for six weeks time was made for submitting reply to the matter. However, the court gave time till Nov 10 to do the needful. Taking serious note of delay in filing the report, the chief justice directed the secretary, ministry of foreign affairs, to submit report and parawise comments on the petition on or before Nov 10, otherwise the secretary may be asked to personally show up to the court. The petitioner alleged Pakistani authorities played their role in the abduction and extradition of the said citizens to foreign countries. The petitioner, therefore, prayed that the respondent ministries be directed to make representation as required by law on behalf of abducted citizens of Pakistan held at Bagram jail and arrangements for their release and extradition to the country. She further prayed to the court to order registration of criminal cases against those involved in abduction of Pakistani citizens and their handing over to the foreign countries.
