INDIAS hardline far-right political party Shiv Sena on Tuesday demanded a ban on burqa, calling the Muslim veil a threat to security interests. According to NDTV, the party made the following statements in its newspaper, Saamna: If the burqa is used to steal children, then we demand that it be banned as per law. When burqa was banned in Turkey by Kemal Pasha, Islam did not come in between. Why only is it so in India. Citing France as an example, the party said the French president had taken a 'revolutionary step in banning the burqa. It said criminals were using the burqa to commit crimes. It cited how a newborn was stolen from a hospital and how CCTV footage showed a 5.2 feet tall burqa-clad person committing the crime.
