The institution of police is considered to be the most corrupt in Pakistan and probably the most disliked by the citizens also. Although the police have proven from time to time their effectiveness in the hour of need, but the overall situation of the institution is appalling. As long as the corruption remains the distrust will remain in the citizens. The corruption is not only in the financial form, but also there is widespread presence of nepotism and political influence. It is imperative that reforms should be implemented within the police department, if corruption is also to be curtailed. YASIR HAMEED, Islamabad, October 18.
