ISLAMABAD - Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani called on Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf here on Friday evening and discussed with him the overall security situation in the country with special reference to the mounting pressure from US for launching operation against militants in North Waziristan Agency.United States Special Representative on Afghanistan and Pakistan Ambassador Marc Grossman will also be reaching here on Saturday (today).Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar later joined the meeting which could be termed as a preparatory session for their meetings with Ambassador Grossman.Sources aware of the deliberations of the meeting informed TheNation that Supreme Court's verdict in Asghar Khan case also figured in the meeting and it was the consensus between the political and military leadership of the country that law should take its course and things should be dealt on merit.Sources further said that both political and military leadership also have a consensus view on role of Pakistan in war against terror and it was also agreed that the operation against militants in North Waziristan and elsewhere would be launched keeping in view the ground realities and no external pressure whatsoever on it would be taken into account.Sources further said that COAS briefed the Prime Minister on the ongoing action against the militants and also informed that as winter has stepped in so it would not be feasible for the Armed Forces to go for a full-fledged military operation in North Waziristan Agency.It was further decided in the meeting that it would be made clear to US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan that Islamabad would launch action against militants as per its own plan and strategy.Sources further said that it was also decided in the meeting to forcefully take up the cross-border infiltration and ambush on Pakistan military check-posts on Pak-Afghan border from Afghan side and would press ISAF to help check these border violations.Meanwhile, according to the Press release issued by the Prime Minister's House Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar called on Prime Minister briefed him on various issues of regional and international importance.
