PESHAWAR - The visiting Head on Economic Cooperation and Development for Afghanistan and Pakistan of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr Stefan Oswald called on the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Barrister Masood Kausar at Governor’s House Peshawar on Friday.

He remained with the governor for sometime and discussed matters pertaining to German support and cooperation for generating economic development activities both in the province and Fata. Matters relating to further expediting pace of work on the ongoing projects mainly concerning to water and health sectors through the non-government organisations in particular came under discussion and the Governor assured the distinguished guest every possible support and cooperation for making this possible.

Speaking on the occasion, the governor particularly referred to the dire need for launching economic development support projects in Fata and said that more generous cooperation on part of the international community may supplement the ongoing efforts of the government for bringing rapid stability in the area.

On a point, he also pointed out that implementation of the Political Parties Order coupled with strengthening of administrative system in Fata are accruing positive results and he himself is in close contact with the respective tiers of the respective political parties. “We are very keen in mainstreaming Fata and the steps taken by the government for achievement of this goal are the big achievements of the government,” he added. He also assured his fullest support for ensuring smooth implementation on the development projects being sponsored by the Federal Republic of Germany both in the province and Fata.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the UoP scientists decided on Friday that every discipline of the Applied Sciences at the university would submit a project to the research and development awards announced by the Directorate of Science and Technology, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The meeting of UoP scientists was held with Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar Prof Dr Qibla Ayaz in the chair. A committee was formed in the meeting under the chair of Prof Dr Amir Khan, Chairman Department of Geography to ensure submission of projects before the given deadline to the provincial government.

Academia industry linkages are integral for socio-economic development of the country, said Vice Chancellor UoP Prof Dr Qibla Ayaz on the occasion. He added support of the government is needed to bridge the gap between academia and industry and the step taken by provincial government towards exploring the research and development potential of the scientists would go a long way in achieving the same.
