KARACHI - All the national seeds cruised into the next round of NBP National Tennis Championship being played here at Karachi Gymkhana Tennis Courts on Friday. Pakistan No 1 player Aqeel Khan sent Noor Rehman out of men’s singles of the championships organised by Subh-e-Nau. Aqeel dominated in the match and won in straight sets. Aqeel’s younger brother Yasir Khan showed improvement in his game and downed Malik Hamza in straight sets. M Aid of Lahore played well and won his match against Iltefat Ahmed. Vinod Das, was shocked by M Manzar, a coach of Karachi Gymkhana, in the second round match of men’s singles. Vinod looked off color in his match and was downed to his opponent in straight sets. Talha Abrar reached next round after he was awarded walkover against Usman Ijaz nephew of PTF secretary Mumtaz Yousuf. Hassan Riaz of Lahore also reached next round after getting walkover against Tariq Jan. Murad Khan, a ball picker of Modern Club, enjoyed victory over Noor Rehman in the first round match of boys’ u-18. Murad won first set easily, however, he had to face stiff resistance from his opponent in the second set but he won the match in a tie break. Imad Amir of Lahore defeated Hassan Ali in a match of boys’ u-18. Nazif Ahmed was down to Aqeel Shabbir in straight sets. Sahar Khawaj got a convincing victory over young Kinza Ghanchi in the first match of ladies singles. Sahar was too good for her opponent. Rida Khalid of Lahore won her match against Uroosa Ahmed while Urooj Iltefat was victorious against Mahnoor Jamshed. Dawar Rehan proved to be too good against Sheraz in the first match of boys’ juniors’ u-18 as he defeated his opponent in straight sets. Aqeel Shabbir and Danish Waheed also qualified for the next round. Top seed Talha Zubair also reached second round by getting a bye.
