RAWALPINDI - A 25-year-old girl, who was shot and injured by her student on marriage dispute, died at the Surgical Intensive Caring Unit (SICU) of the Holy Family Hospital (HFH) here on Saturday.

Mehmoona Ibrahim daughter of Ibrahim, a teacher by profession and resident of Khayaban-e-Sir Syed Sector 4, was injured critically by one Nauman Butt, a 20-year-old polio-affected boy and her student, over marriage dispute on September 25, 2013. The girl sustained two lethal bullet injuries at her beauty bone and on the lower part of back muscles of shoulders. Later, Nauman turned pistol on himself and fired a bullet in his belly.

The girl and the injured boy were immediately shifted to HFH by Rescue 1122 and police. The girl was admitted to SICU Surgical Unit 1 of HFH where she succumbed to injuries after 24 days. A case was also registered with Police Station (PS) Pirwadhai. On the other hand, police investigators, who have submitted a chellan against the accused under section 324 in a local court, would insert section 302 in it.

The girl was laid to rest after a funeral prayer that held at Khayaban-e-Sir Syed graveyard, which was attended by a large number of area people and some political personalities. A brother of deceased girl, while talking to media men, appealed Chief Justice of Pakistan and Chief Minister Punjab to provide justice to the victim family.
