ISLAMABAD - Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms would continue its deliberations here today (Monday) with the purpose to remove lacunae in the existing electoral system.
The committee would give approval to the minutes of the previous meeting wherein the Election Commission of Pakistan had concluded its presentation on the fact-sheet on last general elections while the committee would likely review the subcommittee's report on the recommendations and suggestions came from various segments of society including lawyers, civil society members and political parties.
The committee may take up the issue of without intimation absence of the PTI members of the committee and may take up the matter in the upcoming session of the National Assembly for their expulsion from the committee because in the light of the Rules of Business and Procedure for the conduct of National Assembly 2007, the member abstaining from the committee proceedings for three consecutive sittings without intimation could be terminated from the slot by adopting the set procedure.
On the other hand, the sources in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf informed that their members in the Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms would not attend the Monday's meeting because all the members had already tendered their resignations from the membership of the Lower House of the Parliament so their membership of the committee automatically stand void.
